Chitose Country Club opened on 1 October 1974 on 1.57 million square metres of gently rolling ground east of Chitose. Of the two courses we list near the airport it is the further out — where Shamrock is flat and eight minutes from the terminal, Chitose is hilly, wooded and about half an hour away by taxi.
The eighteen holes are two nines, and their names describe them. Karamatsu — larch — is the flatter and the longer, and the club's own description is of a course wide enough to hit out on. Shirakaba — white birch — is the one with shape in it: uphill and downhill tee shots and a carry across a valley. From the blue tees the round measures 6,765 yards against a par of 72; the white tees play 6,272 and the red 5,083.
Two things about it are unusual and worth knowing. The first is that the club will start you at first light — it says so plainly on its own site, and in a Hokkaido summer first light is very early indeed. The second is the season: it closes from early December to early April, so this is a course for roughly May through November.
There is a fifteen-bay range running to 220 yards, a restaurant, and a competition room for up to forty people. Soft spikes only, and all the major cards are accepted.
We have confirmed by telephone that the club takes bookings made on a visitor's behalf. What it does not do is publish its green fees on its own site — they sit on its booking system — and it does not state on the site whether there is a bath, or whether caddies and riding carts are available. Rather than guess at any of that, we ask the club directly and tell you what they say before you commit to anything.
Getting there
About seven minutes from Chitose-Higashi IC on the Doto Expressway, and about thirty minutes by taxi from New Chitose Airport. The club states plainly that it runs no courtesy bus. It closes for the winter, from early December to early April.
Nearest station: Chitose (JR Chitose Line) — about 20 min by car. We include precise written directions (English and Japanese) with every confirmed booking — and can arrange a private car with golf-bag space if you'd rather skip the trains entirely.

The club closes for the winter, from early December to early April, so the playing season is roughly May through November. It also states that you can start at first light, which in a Hokkaido summer means a very early tee time is genuinely available.
How do I get there from New Chitose Airport?+
About thirty minutes by taxi. The club states that it does not run a courtesy bus. By car it is about seven minutes from Chitose-Higashi IC on the Doto Expressway, and JR Chitose station is about twenty minutes away. We do not arrange transport, but we will tell you what the options are.
Can overseas visitors play?+
Yes. We telephoned the club and confirmed that it accepts bookings made on a visitor's behalf (August 2026). Reservations are taken in Japanese, which is the part we handle. We will still confirm your specific date with the club before you pay anything.
What does it cost?+
The club does not publish green fees on its own website — they sit on its booking system and move by date. We would rather ask than print a number we cannot stand behind, so tell us your date and we will come back with what the club quotes.
Is there a bath, a caddie, or a riding cart?+
The club's own site does not say, so neither will we. It does list a restaurant, a fifteen-bay practice range and a competition room, and it accepts all the major cards. We ask about the rest when we call to hold your tee time.
